The True Cost of Cleaning.

Saving money in economic times where costs are going up while income remains stale, can be a difficult process. Most people think saving money by reducing the visits to restaurants, coffee shops or cutting out the cable TV is the best way to save.  But, few people think how much it costs to purchase cleaners for the carpet, kitchen and bathroom and cleaners for the hardwood floor, tile, stainless steal appliances. All the products you have in your home that are used to clean everything could fill up a standard sized garbage can.

Do you really need all those cleaning products? The answer is an astounding no!

Consider the cost.

  • Lysol Kitchen Cleaner 32oz - $4.99
  • 409 Cleaner/ Degreaser 1 Gal - $14.95
  • Simple Green All Purpose Cleaner 32 oz - $7.99
  • Pledge Furniture Polish 14oz spray can - $6.50
  • Lysol Bathroom Cleaner 32oz - $3.87
  • Windex Original Glass Cleaner 26oz - $3.43
  • Resolve Triple Oxi Carpet Stain Remover 22oz - $5.19

The total for all these cleaners is an astonishing $46.92. This does not include cleaners for the deck, siding, grill and oil stains in concrete.

Where can we save money in cleaning products? Buy concentrated formulas that can clean multiple surfaces. A good concentrated cleaner can be diluted to wash windows, dust furniture and clean hardwood floors without streaking or harming the surface of fine woods. It can also be used to clean and degrease common food, greases and petroleum based stains simply by using a stronger solution of the concentrate. One myth is that cleaners must smell badly to be effective. In fact some of the best cleaners do not have to have a nasty smell to it all.

One product that really set the bar high for me is ProSol All Purpose Cleaner. The product is available in a concentrated quart size and in a gallon. I can't say enough about it. I've had carpet stains such a red wine and ink that I thought would never come out, but did. I've degreased and cleaned my grill and oven. Then with a very light solution I cleaned my windows without streaking. I even use it to wash my hands and it has a very light and pleasant smell.

The best thing about the product is with the price of just under $40.00 the cost per quart is less than .63 cents per quart.  Let me break it down, as shown above the typical home has more than 7 cleaning products all totaling more than $46.00. Now that the cost of each quart of ProSol at .63 multiplied by 7 equals $4.41. Now how would you like to save more than $42.51?

Prosol's motto is "Once tried always used" And for me I know from first hand experience that "IT WORKS"!
